Places of Note

Ambush Trail

This winding trail that passes through the Yellow Hills is famed as the site of the destruction of a Praxian horde by a Dundealos hero and his allies. "Even the goat-rearing Balkothi speak of this trail with pride, and seem confident that they can use the same tactic to repel the next Praxian army that heads this way." (DP:LoT p.11)

Darroldshold

This well-defended hillfort is the centre of the Daldari clan. Previously it guarded the northernmost bounds of the Dundealos Tribe before the Daldari broke away. The Lunars maintain a small presence, but hold the Daldari in contempt after the events of the Sheepbane.

Devil's Glove

"This massive hand-shaped hill is known as the Devil's Glove because it has six fingers. It is often said to be a piece of clothing from The Devil, who fought Urox. However, that evil demon wore no clothing, and locals say it belonged to a different devil called Uefega, one of the horde that followed Wakboth in the Chaos Wars. His hand was chopped off and rotted to become this hill; or it was just his glove, thrown down in defiance. Nothing grows right here: trees and bushes are warped and peculiar, and even the grass here moves when the air is still. A yawning gap, the wrist opens to a huge cave. No one can sleep inside without having debilitating nightmares ever afterwards. One discomfiting rumour claims that ogres come here from Prax and perform obscene rites to their hideous god. (DP:LoT p.21)

Enothea's Cut

Located just to the north of the Devil's Glove, Enothea's Cut (also known as Enothea's Vale or the Great Vale), is a deep, steep-sided and fertile valley in the Yellow Hills. Harnafal Windfoot was led to it by the sound of rushing water of Orventili's Tears, where the seasonal streams fall into the waters and pools of Overweary Creek, which runs through the Cut and skirts the Hill of Saraskos. (DP:LoT p.21)

The stead he founded there, Harnafal's Rest, is the oldest settlement in the Yellow Hills and the traditional centre of the Penbal Clan.

Long Scab

In the borderlands between the Fimburos and Untralos clans lies the Long Scab, a narrow, blasted and wasted valley deep in the Yellow Hills. This is a valley hidden from sight, but not a place of plenty and blessing, instead it is avoided, let well alone by all sensible people.

Mittelmark

The name remains the same, even if the buildings (and the road layout) change every few generations as the latest set of raiders form Prax attack, but the main market of the Fimburos clan remains, marking the start of the Ambush Trail as it wends its way through the Yellow Hills.

Ortosstead

While Darroldshold marked the boundaries of the clan, and has now become the centre, Ortosstead is in the central portion of the Daldari clan-lands, but has decreased in status and importance. Nevertheless it has remained the traditional centre of the Roganvarth bloodline, being founded by Ortoss Shortleg, the only son of Branbrig Roganvarth to survive the disaster of 1448.

Pimper's Block

A settlement best-known for its slave market, Pimper's Block marks the easternmost edge of Dragon Pass, and has long been ruled by the Farad bloodline of the Daldari clan. In recent years the market has been under the care of the Lunar Etyries cult.

Ranulfstead

Named after Ranulf Longstride, who brought his people to the Yellow Hills, this stead is founded around a spring that provides water all-year round. Swenstown is a few miles to the north.

Stain Dale

When Orlkarl Falsestorm and his allies objected to the Lunar's treatment of their people some took up arms to defend their precious sheep. The results were inevitable and the rebels put to the sword, their blood colouring the earth. Within the dale are the ruins of Arkellstead, left as a warning to others who test the patience of the enlightened Lunar Empire.

The name has become the common term for any similarly destroyed place.

Yellow Hills

A range of rolling hills, clad in parched yellow grass, within which are many sheltered, steep-sided vales, or cuts. To the west the Yellow Hills merge with the Tantrell Hills beyond Jaldonkill. The Dundealos Valley is to the south, and the mouth of the Killard Vale to the north. The Yellow Hills fade into the chaparral of Prax to the east, the edge being marked by the slave market of Pimper's Block.
